1. Introduction and objectives

This position is within a research project funded by the Pre-positioning Industry Alignment Fund (AME) from A*STAR. The project aims to achieve the industrialisation of additive manufacturing (AM) by developing effective AM workflow so that design with production planning is fast, cost effective, and can scale up easily. The project will equip designers with intelligent software tools to design high performance products that exploit AM’s controls over geometry and materials, and incorporate manufacturability considerations upfront during the design stage. The project further aims to improve the quality and consistency of AM parts through software (and hardware) innovations. In the end, the project aims to demonstrate an integrated AM workflow from design to final fabricated part in a testbed. The stakeholders in this project are SUTD, IHPC, ARTC, NUS, IMRE and NMC. The overall coordinator of the project is SUTD.

 

The candidate will:

  • Work closely with the PI to setup and coordinate meetings with all co-PIs
  • Work with all stakeholders and align to the project objectives and deliverables
  • Keep a record of all meetings and contacts in a platform shared with all stakeholders
  • Seek all institutes’ points of contact to make sure that milestones and deadlines are met
  • Contact companies to bring them on-board the project and share costs
  • Liaise directly with the funding body and prepare all reports and budgets necessary for running the project

 

The candidate must have:

  • A PhD (or MSc with relevant experience) in Engineering
  • A consolidated knowledge of the design process, and awareness of the additive manufacturing realm both nationally and internationally
  • A “can do” attitude and be able to deal with multiple institutions and stakeholders
  • Experience in talking to companies to get them on board as partners
  • The ability to organize and present information clearly

The candidate should have:

  • Some understanding of IP laws
  • Experience in reviewing and negotiating research collaboration agreements
  • Proficiency in design of experiments
