The Aviation Studies Institute (ASI) in SUTD is established jointly with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore. Our goal is to establish a world-leading centre of aviation policy research and thought leadership. We are dedicated to the address the needs of aviation stakeholders in general and Air Traffic Management (ATM) policy makers in particular to advance the development of aviation in the Asia-Pacific region.

We are looking for a dynamic research centre manager to lead, develop, implement, oversee and manage the operations of ASI with the support of a multidisciplinary team.

The research centre manager is also responsible to work closely and collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to ensure all activities are in accordance with the grant agreement which normally includes the following:

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop policies and auditable procedures to ensure that the centre’s operations are aligned with the university’s guidelines and the funding agencies’ requirements.
  • Procure goods and services, including preparation of requirements specifications, raising purchase requests, and contract management.
  • Manage the financial aspects of the grants, including budget tracking; ensuring expenses are spent in accordance with approved budgets and relevant guidelines; and facilitate billing to grantor(s).
  • Manage the centre’s facilities, resources and office supplies to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Oversee the organisation of research events, inward visits by overseas research visiting expert and outward academic study trips/conference presentations. 
  • Administer research programmes and ensure that programmes and projects are carried out according to schedule, approved policies and procedures.
  • Organise, convene and participate in various meetings including preparation of progress reports, meeting agendas, minutes, papers and correspondence.
  • Plan and execute outreach activities to promote the works of the research centre (e.g. collaborative research; seminars; workshops; lectures; websites; publications).
  • Establish new partnerships and collaborations with industry and agencies.
  • Develop strong linkages with appropriate academic departments and units and adding value to the line departments.
  • Set goals for the multidisciplinary team, coach and nurture them to become a high performance team.
  • Any other duties to meet the stakeholders’ expectations.

Requirements:

  • Degree in an engineering, science or mathematics related discipline.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant working experience in the research or aviation sector.
  • Strong leadership with analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong project management skills with exceptional time, task, and resource management skills and the ability to to establish work priorities and carry out duties with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
  • Outgoing personality with good interpersonal and communication skills, and high motivation to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to pool expertise amongst colleagues, the research communities and from within and across departments.
  • High level of initiative and result-oriented, with the ability to set, meet and exceed goals.
