Roles and Responsibilities:

Under the Technology Transfer Office, the Manager is expected to perform the following tasks associated with Technology Transfer Management of the university:

  • Manage and build SUTD's patent portfolio through working closely with other internal departments, including Research, Industry Collaborations to identify potential projects that demonstrate potential commercial potential and work closely with the Pls to cultivate these projects into commercializable inventions.

  • Manage active projects in technology transfer, including but not limited to the conduct of IP workshops for SUTD community involving students and academics.

  • Manage and support the Technology Transfer activities in Innovation Clusters.

  • Manage and track the Proof-of-Concept (POC) or gaps projects to ensure that they meet the milestones for commercialization.

  • Perform outreach to SUTD stakeholders to create awareness and savviness about Intellectual Property (IP) and Technology Transfer, as well as educate stakeholders on the services of the TTO and Technology Disclosure process.

  • Coordinate the submission of Technology Disclosures (TDs) by the SUTD community, perform preliminary assessments of the TDs, leveraging on analysis reports and tools and facilitate internal reviews to arrive at patenting decisions.

  • Managing the patenting process by working closely with patent attorneys and firms in IP protection and prosecution activities, and managing the budgets associated with these activities.

  • Establish and maintain cordial relationships with the following external communities:

    • Corporations to generate and solicit interest in SUTD technologies.

    • Relevant funding agencies to support technologies of interest or specific projects,

    • Other TTOs and Technology Transfer networks to keep abreast of updates in the Technology Transfer landscape as well as learn best practices

  • Track the IP lifecycle from the point of disclosure to the point of commercialization, as well as develop and maintain the relevant database to monitor and record this information.

  • Licensing and/or contract negotiation

 

Pre-requisites:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Infocomm/computer science and/or master’s degree in business or law in a well-established university

  • Relevant experience in technology transfer, commercialization and licensing as well as knowledge of Singapore's IP landscape and relevant patenting procedures will be an added advantage

  • Relevant experience in business development and contracts negotiation will be an added advantage

  • Experience in project management will be an added advantage

  • Experience in managing and setting up gap project mechanisms will be an added advantage

  • Experience with AI, software and process patents will be an added advantage.

  • Good proficiency in MS Office applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proactive, independent and excellent team player

  • Self-driven, meticulous and organized with a strong ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and dynamic environment

  • Have a strong interest in interacting with a wide variety of people
