Research Assistant
About SUTD
SUTD is the world’s first Design·AI university. With Design·AI, artificial intelligence is treated as a partner and a member of the team – not just a tool. As a result of this unique SUTD treatment, AI and humans brainstorm, spar and prototype together, resulting in solutions that are elevated several-fold. This human-AI team concept has been made possible because of SUTD’s unique cohort-based interdisciplinary pedagogy. As a trailblazer in the field of design and technology education and research, SUTD has been pioneering innovative programmes and initiatives since its formation 16 years ago. As part its new mid-term growth strategy called SUTD Leap, it will work closely with industry to co-create solutions in both education and research – for a better world.
About the Job
The Audio, Music, and AI Lab (AMAAI) at Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) is seeking a talented Research Assistant or Research Fellow — essentially a coding wizard — to join us in pushing forward large-scale generative multimodal AI models, with a strong emphasis on music and audio.
What You'll Do
You will work directly under Prof. Dorien Herremans in the AMAAI lab, contributing to cutting-edge research lines in multimodal generative AI for music/audio. Check out some of our recent projects here: https://dorienherremans.com/biblio (including work on models like Mustango, SonicMaster and other generative systems). The ideal candidate brings a strong machine learning foundation, curiosity about sound and music computing, and enthusiasm for collaborating with PhD students and postdocs. You will help combine individual contributions into powerful, integrated systems that drive high-impact publications.
Who We're Looking For
- Solid expertise in deep neural networks, especially using PyTorch
- Strong interest (or hands-on experience) in machine learning applied to audio and/or text
- Passion for — or prior work in — music generation systems
- Excellent programming skills in PyTorch
- At least a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, or a closely related field
We're excited to hear from passionate coders and researchers ready to shape the future of AI-driven music and audio!
