Research Assistant (Robot Connectivity & Systems Engineer)

About the Job:
You will conduct hands-on research on wireless connectivity for robots, with the reliability and latency needed for real-time, AI-driven robot operation. You will integrate cellular connectivity into robot platforms, set up and operate experimental 5G testbeds, run ROS 2 robot systems over wireless links, and measure how network performance affects robot behaviour. Working closely with robot-learning researchers and industry partner engineers, you will also help explore how computing workloads can be shared between robots and the network. You will contribute to research publications, demonstrations and 6G research activities. Fresh graduates and early-career engineers with strong hands-on project experience are encouraged to apply.

Who We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Basic understanding of cellular networks (4G/5G) and the 5G NR protocol stack, e.g., through coursework or projects.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux and computer networking (e.g., network configuration, scripting, Wireshark/tcpdump), e.g., through projects or internships.
  • Programming skills in Python and/or C/C++.
  • Hands-on experience with SDR platforms (e.g., USRP), open-source 5G stacks (e.g., OpenAirInterface, srsRAN, Open5GS), or cellular modems on Linux is highly valued.
  • Experience with ROS/ROS 2 is a plus; candidates without ROS experience should be willing to learn quickly.
  • Experience with embedded or robot platforms (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson, Raspberry Pi), edge computing, or O-RAN is a plus.
  • Eagerness to learn, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a team.
