Job Title: Research Technician/Assistant (Sputtering Systems)

 

About Us
We are an early-stage venture team developing advanced thin film materials and deposition workflow technologies for applications in optics, photonics, and memory. Our work focuses on high quality coatings and process development using sputtering-based techniques.

 

Role Overview
We are looking for a hands-on and reliable research technician to operate and manage our sputtering system, support day-to-day experimental work, and ensure smooth lab operations. This role is critical in enabling consistent thin film deposition for internal R&D and external projects.

 

Key Responsibilities
• Operate and manage a sputtering system (e.g. AJA International sputtering system) independently
• Perform thin film deposition for various projects and customer requirements
• Execute day-to-day experiments following defined process parameters and protocols
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and process deviations
• Perform basic maintenance and minor repairs, including vacuum systems (pumps, leak checks, seals), gas lines and plumbing and electrical connections and wiring
• Support process optimization and data collection
• Maintain proper documentation of experiments, parameters, and results
• Ensure safe operation of equipment and adherence to lab safety protocols


Requirements
• Minimum Diploma in Engineering (Materials Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or related field)
• Prior experience operating sputtering or vacuum deposition systems is strongly preferred
• Familiarity with vacuum systems, gas handling, and thin film processes
• Hands-on experience with basic troubleshooting and maintenance
• Comfortable working with electrical systems, plumbing / gas lines, mechanical components
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of equipment and processes


Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
• Experience with sputtering systems or similar PVD tools
• Background in thin film characterization or materials processing
• Experience in a research lab or cleanroom environment
