The Engineering Systems and Design (ESD) pillar within the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) is pursuing a specialised faculty hire (Research, Teaching, or Clinical) as a Design Innovator-in-Residence to spur micro-innovations and effectuate an entrepreneurial mindset among our students. Exceptional candidates will be considered as tenured/tenure-track faculty.

 

About SUTD and ESD 

 

The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) has topped the list of emerging engineering schools (MIT report, 2018) and possesses a unique structure and mission within the vibrant nation of Singapore. SUTD features the integration of design with engineering, an intimate student to faculty ratio, an innovative active learning pedagogy, an interdisciplinary pillar organization, a stellar faculty, and a beautiful new campus. The Engineering Systems and Design (ESD) pillar within SUTD offers exceptional undergraduate and doctoral degrees with focus on Business Analytics and Operations Research, Financial Services, Supply Chain and Logistics, and Aviation Systems. ESD undergraduates are prepared for a wide range of engineering and management careers in private and public sectors, including healthcare, banking, manufacturing, supply-chain, energy, transportation, and entertainment and hospitality. They are equally adept at entrepreneurship and boldly initiating start-up ventures.  

 

Job Requirements for Tenure-track/Tenured Faculty 

 

We seek to hire a mid-career to senior faculty member who has been an active co-founder of successful start-ups and/or spin-offs (preferably in the manufacturing, logistics, supply-chain, services, data systems, software, technology sectors), and has experience in applying various strategies, including design thinking, for business growth. The candidate should be experienced as a driver of innovation to uncover new business opportunities for growth and fluent in how companies in various industry sectors have been able to innovate and create new business opportunities. In addition, the candidate should be able to equip students with the skills to uncover unmet user needs and real business problems and to apply the entire design thinking process to a real-world business challenge. The candidate should be an excellent communicator and enthuse inter-disciplinary teams to push their boundaries of design and innovation.  

 

The candidate is expected to collaborate with relevant functional units within the university for the development and execution of the organisational growth strategy, identifying potential funding sources, oversee the implementation of these new programme initiatives, ensuring their success through meticulous planning and strong stakeholder partnerships.

 

The successful candidates should have earned a doctorate in an engineering systems-related field and have solid grounding in one or more systems methodologies including, but not limited to, AI/ML, optimization, stochastic modelling, statistics, game theory, financial engineering, and simulation. Empirical, experimental, computational, and analytical research approaches are all welcome. Candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to developing and maintaining an active research program.
