Research Fellow – Mineral Extraction from Desalination Reject Brine

The Entropic Interface Group (EIG) of SUTD has an opportunity available for a two-year Research Fellow position in the area of process design and develop of Mg-based sand-core for metal investment casting, using the mineral extracted from desalination reject brine. This position is funded by A*STAR's Individual Research Grant (Project Number : A20E7c0108).

The candidate must be self-motivated, able to work cooperatively in diverse multi-disciplinary teams and has strong laboratory skills. Primary functions for this role will include:

  • Collaborating with theorist to study and optimise mineral extraction from desalination reject brine
  • Study of physiochemical properties of extracted mineral
  • Design, develop and characterize Mg-based sand-core for metal investment casting
  • Presentation and publication of results


  • Ph.D. Degree in Materials Engineering or Chemical Engineering is required
  • Hands-on research laboratory experience is required
  • Prior research experience in mineral extraction is preferred

This position will require a self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills, and careful attention to detail.
