Research Fellow in Thermochemical Modelling of Mg Extraction

The entropic interface group (EIG) of SUTD has an opportunity available for a Research Fellow in the area of thermochemical modelling of Mg-chemical extraction process using reject brine, with an emphasis on the development of a new aqueous thermodynamic database for reject brine.  Optimization of aqueous model parameters, and design of chemicals to extract Mg-chemicals by using chemical process development software, are essential. This two-year position is funded by A*STAR.

The candidate must be self-motivated and able to work closely with experimental partners. The responsibility for this role will include:

  • Evaluation of experimental thermodynamic data,
  • Development of thermodynamic database
  • Optimization of interaction parameters of the adopted solution model
  • Design Mg extraction process windows using developed models

  • Ph.D. Degree in Materials Sciences or Chemical Engineering or related field is required
  • Hands-on research experience in thermodynamics modelling development is required
  • Prior research experience in CALPHAD and FactSage software is preferred
